  • Sandy Matthews
    Sandy Matthews Vice President, Organizational Advancement Illinois Action for Children

    Sandy Matthews possesses more than 20 years experience in marketing, communications and development, and has focused on advocating for family, children, youth and education.

    Having worked at Illinois Action for Children, a statewide early care and education advocacy organization, since 2007, Matthews is responsible for organizational relationship development, strategic partnerships, generating revenue through foundations and corporate donors, and corporate advisory board development.

    Matthews returned to Illinois Action for Children after a successful stint as Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education. In that role, she was responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the office of the assistant secretary, including program planning, communications messaging, constituent outreach, and daily operations, among other essential duties.

    Matthews has focused her career on advocating for family, children, youth and education. From 1998 to 2006, she was Senior Program Consultant for the Michael and Juanita Jordan Endowment Fund, overseeing day-to-day operations and raising capital to support the fund’s commitment to children, families and education. Prior to that, from 1994 to 1997 she was Director of Public Affairs for the office of the chancellor and the seven City Colleges of Chicago. In that capacity, she successfully positioned City Colleges of Chicago as a national model for
    urban post-secondary education.

    A graduate of North Central College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and French, she earned a Masters of Jurisprudence in Child and Family Law from Loyola Law School in Chicago.

    Matthews lives in Chicago and is married to Gary Matthews, former Major League Baseball player for the Chicago Cubs. They have one daughter and four sons.

  • Latham Williams, JD, MA
    Latham Williams, JD, MA Co-Founder and Principal, Headlights LLC; Board Chair

    Latham Williams is the co-founder and principal of HeadLights, LLC where he is engaged in career coaching, recruiting and board and senior leadership assessment and development. He also is a consultant to Epic Business Strategies and the Exeter Group, and is the founding member of The Latham Williams Law Group, LLC where he is involved in corporate transactions, crisis management and business disputes. Mr. Williams served over eleven years as the chief legal officer and corporate secretary at Hudson Global, Inc. (“Hudson”), a publicly-traded talent solutions company with business operations in over twenty-five countries. He was a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, a past member of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals and a member of the Chief Legal Officers’ Section of the Conference Board. He was a guest lecturer in the Board of Directors’ Education Program at the University of California-Berkeley (Haas Business School) and a guest lecturer at Stanford Law School, the American Medical Association and the American Dental Association. Mr. Williams chaired the Board of Trustees of the Fielding Graduate University based in Santa Barbara, California, and he is a lifetime member of the Law Board of the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Foundation, and the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Mr. Williams is a past governor of the Illinois State Bar Association, a life member of the American Bar Foundation, and a past president and director of the Minority Legal Education Resources, Inc. Mr. Williams holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with honors from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, a Master’s degree in Health Services Management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Juris Doctor degree from the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.

  • Carla Carstens, MBA
    Carla Carstens, MBA Trustee of the Asset Management Trust; Chairman of the Nominating & Governance and Valuation Committees; Director for Financial Executives International – Chicago Chapter; Vice Chair

    Ms. Carstens is former BP/Amoco Corporation Executive with over 30 years of Strategic and Operational Planning experience. Since leaving BP she independently consulted to private and public firms and was a Principal in Tatum LLC’s Performance Improvement Practice. Illustrative examples of engagements include: developing a turnaround plan for an accounts receivable firm and an acquisition strategy for a software firm, and implementing Sarbanes-Oxley for a Fortune 500 manufacturing company. She was BP/Amoco Merger Integration Manager for Retail Gasoline, Refining and Supply operations. Her Amoco positions included Vice President Strategic Planning and Director of Supply Chain Optimization for Amoco Oil Company and served as Secretary to Amoco Oil’s Executive Management Committee; Business Development Manager for Amoco Marine Transport Company, and Vice President Amoco Venture Capital Company. Key accomplishments include developing the operating governance framework to merge BP and Amoco’s the retail gasoline, refining, and supply businesses; member of the executive team that led Amoco Oil’s profitability turn around to become the industry leader; oversaw the development of the business strategies and performance monitoring utilizing such tools as Organization Capability Assessments and Balance Scorecard; integrating Enterprise Risk Management and Competitive Intelligence into the strategy processes such as scenario planning and war gaming. Ms. Carstens was also responsible for developing the Amoco Oil’s M&A strategy with a major oil company pre-BP and a $300 million cost reduction initiative. Ms. Carstens led Amoco Oil’s Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP) implementation, then SAP’s largest implementation. Ms. Carstens earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics and M.B.A. at Washington University, St. Louis. Ms. Carstens and her husband, Ted Herr, reside in Chicago. They are members of the Chicago Yacht Club and enjoy travel and spending time at their vacation home in Long Beach, IN.

    Felicia S. Wilhelm, RN Founder and CEO of Prairie States Enterprises, Inc.

    Felicia S. Wilhelm RN is the founder and CEO of Prairie States Enterprises, Inc., a Chicago-based
    health benefits administration firm. A career-long health care professional with a unique
    combination of clinical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit, Felicia has grown Prairie States into
    technologically advanced health management company. Now celebrating its 28th year, Prairie
    States administers group health plans with employees from coast to coast, including Fortune 500
    companies. An experienced health care consultant, Felicia has had great success working with
    employers to implement innovative, cost-saving health care solutions. She received her nursing degree from Vanderbilt University and worked in the neurosurgical unit at Vanderbilt Hospital. Subsequently Felicia served as a Nurse Practitioner in Adult Assessment in the Emergency Department at Rush Presbyterian St Luke Hospital in Chicago and estimates that she addressed the needs of in excess of 6,500 patients. Prior to her tenure at Prairie States Enterprises, she started the first three preferred provider organizations in Chicago. Prairie States
    has a collaborative relationship with the Mayo Clinic, bringing an exceptional prescription drug plan and complex care referral solutions. She is a member of the Health Committee for The Illinois States Chamber of Commerce and active in Self-Insurance Institute of America, Inc. (SIIA) and the Society of Professional Benefit Administrators (SPBA). She has been a member of Vistage for 20 years. Prairie States is a certified Woman Business Enterprise.

  • Robert Christie, JD
    Robert Christie, JD

    Mr. Christie practiced with Greenberg Traurig, LLP in the areas of commodities and securities law and commercial litigation. He represented clients in connection with enforcement actions and regulatory matters before the CFTC, SEC, NFA, FINRA, and various exchanges. Mr. Christie has extensive experience defending clients in arbitration at NFA, FINRA, CME, and other arbitration forums, in addition to representing clients in CFTC reparations proceedings and state and federal courts. Mr. Christie’s business litigation experience included representing clients in employee actions concerning federal and state discrimination laws, non-compete agreements, and general commercial disputes. Mr. Christie is also a member of the Board of a university for healthcare professionals. Mr. Christie was general counsel of the Chicago Yacht Club, a Section 501(c)(7) organization and from 2006 through 2009, he was general counsel of the Chicago Yacht Club Foundation, a Section 501(c)(3) organization. As a general counsel of the Foundation and in an effort to regain the confidence of its donors, Mr. Christie rewrote the Foundation’s Bylaws. The revised bylaws provided for, amount other things, staggered terms for the Board of Trustees, a transparent governing structure, heighten compliance initiatives, through the creation of Audit, Investment, and Grant Review committees, and the creation of institutionalized conflict of interest policy.

  • Pamela Zarkowski, JD., MPH
    Pamela Zarkowski, JD., MPH Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs University of Detroit Mercy (UDM); Secretary

    Ms. Zarkowski is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM). In this combined executive position, she is the chief academic officer of the University and responsible for the administration of all academic departments and programs, and a member of the UDM President’s Cabinet. Ms. Zarkowski has been a faculty member in the University’s School of Dentistry since 1978, she attained the rank of professor in 1994. She was appointed Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs in 2007 and was officially appointed Vice President of Academic Affairs in 2008. Prior to that position, Zarkowski was Executive Associate Dean of UDM’s School of Dentistry from 2002-2007. She is published in the areas of community oral health and legal and ethical issues for dental professionals.

    J. Marc Golan, CPA

    Mr. Golan is a CPA. He oversees a Total Net Revenues of approximately $1B. His regional direct line reports include VP Finance, Budget, Health Information Management, Patient Access, Managed Care, Productivity, Business Development, Decision Support, Materials Management, ACO and ABO Finance. He has held various financial positions throughout his career, predominately within healthcare and also had extensive experience in performing financial audits and assisting with mergers, acquisitions, refinancing across industries. Mr. Golan is a member of the Oak Point Finance Committee.

    Maryann Barnes, BSN, MA

    Maryann Barnes is currently certified in Holistic Nursing and has held certifications in Nursing Administration and Perioperative Nursing. Maryann also worked for St. John Providence Health in Detroit, part of Ascension Health and the Detroit Medical Center. She is committed to working in Catholic Health. Maryann graduated from Michigan State University with a BSN and the University of Detroit Mercy with a Masters in Healthcare Administration.

  • Karena Brown, RN, CMSRN
    Karena Brown, RN, CMSRN Clinical Coordinator, Northwestern Memorial Hospital

    Karena Brown is a Clinical Coordinator and is currently interim manager of an inpatient general medicine unit at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In addition to her Clinical RN role, she is very involved in the organization. She currently serves as the Chair of the Nursing Quality and Patient Safety Subcommittee, is a member of the Nursing Professional Practice Committee, and a member of the Magnet Committee. She is also Medicine Department Shared Leadership member and is a certified medical surgical nurse. Ms. Brown is a graduate of Oak Point University. In addition, she holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. She is currently continuing her education in Chamberlain University’s Master’s of Science in Nursing program.

  • Kyle Suddarth, CFA
    Kyle Suddarth, CFA Vice President, Institutional Markets BMO Harris Bank; Treasurer

    Kyle Suddarth is a Vice President with BMO Harris Bank where his expertise includes a wide range of private, not-for-profit sectors including healthcare, education and cultural institutions.  In serving these sectors, Mr. Suddarth enjoys helping clients with various tax-exempt financing structures, in addition to relying on deep knowledge of the full suite of traditional commercial banking products to provide financial solutions. Prior to specializing in the not-for-profit sector, he was a member of the bank’s middle market commercial and corporate banking teams, where his clients included both publicly and privately held corporations. In total, Mr. Suddarth has been with BMO Harris Bank for more than 10 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Master of Science in Finance degrees from the University of Tampa. Mr. Suddarth holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and he is a member of the CFA Society of Chicago.

  • Mauricio Pineda
    Mauricio Pineda

    Mauricio Pineda serves as the president of the Oak Point University Alumni Association; he completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Resurrection in the fall of 2015, graduated cum laude, and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. After which he completed a nurse residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he specialized in Emergency Services. As a nurse resident, Mauricio completed training in acute trauma care as well as prehospital ground and air transportation. He also was part of the hospital’s Committee of Clinical Excellence and worked with the Department of Emergency Medicine Research. He then transitioned to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was part of the committee to develop a Nurse Residency Program. He currently practices as an emergency and trauma nurse at the University of Chicago Medicine and is part of the Critical Care and Fall Prevention committees. He is a Certified Emergency Communications Registered Nurse. In his free time, he volunteers at Community Health Clinic, the second largest free clinic in the country, where he advocates for the underserved, uninsured/underinsured, and undocumented Latino communities. Championing a COVID-19 vaccination clinic where 1700 people were vaccinated on a weekend. Mauricio received his Master in Family Nurse Practitioning with a focus on Emergency Medicine from the Loyola University Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing in 2022.
