2012 Award Winners Honored–DAISY Awards, Mission & Ministry, Added to Excellence Awards

On Tuesday, May 8th, Oak Point University presented the annual Excellence Awards to faculty and staff members. This year, the University also presented a new Excellence in Mission & Ministry Award, which will be named the Sister Sandi Award in honor of the first recipient, Sister Sandi Sosnowski, CSFN. The University also presented the annual DAISY Award and Nominees.

Award Winners

Maria Martinez, MS, RN, Instructor in the College of Nursing received the DAISY Award, a merit-based award that honors not only great teaching skill and leadership but also a commitment to instilling strong patient care and compassion in their students.

Nominated by Tamara Bland, MS, RN, Instructor in the College of Nursing

“Maria is committed to assisting her students learn by providing several means of teaching both in the classroom and clinical settings. She also supports their initiative to challenge the nursing staff when improper care is being provided.”

Other nominees for the DAISY Award included: Lynda Crawford, Ph.D., RN, Assistant Dean in the College of Nursing; Nancy Reese, MSN, RN, CNE, Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing; and Belen Zangrilli, MS, RN, Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing. Darla DeWolff, CPNP, MSN, MPH, RN, Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, received the Excellence in Research Award for her work in the treatment and management of asthma in the adolescent population.

“Ms. DeWolff demonstrates the appreciation for integration of research and evidence-based nursing as well as serving as a role model in professional nursing by conducting pertinent and relevant research and utilizing effective methods of distributing the information to the nursing community.”

Sami Khayat, MS, received the Excellence in Service Award for leading by his example of providing exceptional service.

Nominated by Julie Duff, MS, APN, Instructor in the College of Nursing

“Not only does Sami ‘know his stuff’ and serves as an invaluable resource to all, but he always has a smile on his face and approaches each job or request for help with a terrific ‘can-do’ attitude.”

Sister Sandi Sosnowski, CSFN, Mission & Ministry, received the first Excellence in Mission & Ministry Award which recognizes contributions to the mission and core values of Oak Point University acknowledging exemplary performance.

“If anyone deserves to be nominated for the very first Excellence in Mission & Ministry Award, it is Sister Sandi. Her very presence speaks of goodness, kindness, understanding, compassion and service. When we speak of the ‘heart of Oak Point’, that’s Sister Sandi.”
