On Tuesday, July 1, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin visited the campus of Oak Point, and on Monday, June 23, NFL Hall of Famer and former Chicago Bears Linebacker Mike Singletary paid a visit while in Chicago on other business.
Both Durbin and Singletary toured the campus, met students and faculty, and then spent the majority of their time in the Simulation Learning Center. Also called the SimLab at Oak Point, this is where nursing students learns to assess, diagnose and treat patients, using highly functioning mannequins that simulate breathing and have heartbeats. Students learn how to use Intravenous therapy (IV), use a stethoscope to listen to lungs, check pulses, perform wound care changes and more.
