On Thursday, June 16th, 2016, Oak Point hosted the Foglia Family Foundation Interprofessional Education (IPE) Simulation Learning Center Dedication Ceremony and Reception with donors, friends of the University, board members, faculty and staff. Donors Vince and Pat Foglia opened up the celebration with a ribbon cutting ceremony in the new, 6200-square-foot space. This was followed by a ceremony with remarks from President Therese Scanlan and donor Vince Foglia, and a blessing of the space by Father Tim Fiala. After the ceremony, attendees were invited to view demonstrations of the simulation manikins used for student learning, including the Sage SIM Man, an advanced model who sweats and bleeds, and has urine return with catheterization, seizures, active pulse, pupil dilation and abnormal heart and lung sounds. In another room, the SimMom demonstration included an actual birth of a newborn and allowed for viewers to experience the capabilities of the advanced technology being used in the new IPE Simulation Learning Center.
Earlier in the day, Vince and Pat Foglia enjoyed a luncheon with the Foglia Family Foundation student scholarship recipients, Chandrikka Estacion, Theodore Hiemstra, Heidi Voelker, and Brandy Wade, and former scholarship recipient and alumna Angela Vo, BSN, RN, ’14. The students and alumna shared with the Foglias their experiences in nursing school and how the generous donation of the Foundation has allowed for them to pursue their education and ultimately their careers as nurses.

Oak Point University’s new Interprofessional Education Simulation Learning Center is a state-of-the-art, 6200-square-foot, 14-room Learning Center and an impressive addition to the Oak Point learning experience. This new space replaces the former 1350-square-foot, one-room Simulation Learner Center and will allow educators to teach collaboratively in multidisciplinary patient care teams so students are better prepared to meet real-world challenges.
The Foglia Family Foundation has supported Oak Point since 2013 with scholarship donations, the Sage SIM Man manikin and the new Foglia Family Foundation Interprofessional Education Simulation Learning Center.
