HIIM Program at Oak Point is One of 9 Hot New College Majors

Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) students at Oak Point are part of one of the hottest college majors in the country today, according to an article in theSeptember 19, 2011 issue of US News and World Report.

The need is huge for health information (HIM) professionals who can help acquire, manage, and use information to improve health and manage payments, according to the article, with the American Medical Informatics Association estimating that nearly 50,000 new HIM workers will be needed within the next five to seven years.

“The beauty of this degree is its versatility and utility. HIM professionals are valued in so many departments within the traditional healthcare organization,” said Desla Mancilla, DHA, RHIA, Director of Health Informatics and Information Management at Oak Point University.  “They are also routinely employed in other settings, like computer system vendor companies, insurance agencies, research settings, education, and in every variety of healthcare organization.  There is such an opportunity for growth as a HIM professional.”
