Julie Duff Receives DAISY Faculty Award

April 22, 2015 // Oak Point University

Assistant Professor Julie Duff, MS, RN, WHNP-BC was presented with the annual DAISY Faculty Award at Oak Point University. For the past few years, Oak Point University has participated in presenting the DAISY Faculty Award to one of our faculty members. The DAISY Faculty Award is given to a professor who is committed to inspiring and influencing nursing students.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 of complications of ITP. The Barnes family wanted to honor Patrick and came up with “DAISY,” an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The family was so impressed by the level of care that Patrick received, that they decided the Foundation would focus on the recognition of nurses for their extraordinary care, compassion and kindness. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is now recognized at over 1,200 healthcare facilities around the U.S. and internationally. To date, the DAISY Foundation has recognized over 30,000 nurses for their extraordinary care and 130,000 nurses have been nominated.

The DAISY Nursing Faculty Award was born out of the notion that those who teach future nurses, have a profound impact on the future of care that is provided. These faculty are often not recognized for the effect they have on their students, on patient care, and on the professionalism of nursing. The DAISY Faculty Award provides universities, colleges, and schools of nursing a national recognition program to demonstrate appreciation to their nursing faculty for their commitment, inspiration and influence on students.

Fellow faculty, staff, administration, and students are all able to nominate those faculty they believe deserves the award. From the nominations, the recipient is chosen through a blind review. This year, Kristen Bayer, Maria Martinez and Catherine Williams were all nominated for the award.

Congratulations to Julie Duff and to all the nominees! Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
