Students Return to Classes at New Campus

January 7, 2013 // Oak Point University

On Monday, January 7, 2013, Oak Point University students returned to classes at the new campus located in Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital at 1431 North Claremont in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The University occupies the entire sixth, seventh and eighth floors, as well as part of the first floor.

After two years of planning and construction, the University is delighted to begin classes at its new location. In the new space, students will find state-of-the-art classrooms that have desks with built in electrical outlets, and an advanced simulation center. The Academic Center for Excellence has been redesigned to better tutor students. Students now have access to a remodeled library with a quiet room and a student lounge with 24/7 access. Each floor has seating areas for students with views of the downtown skyline.

“It’s exciting to have prospective students come for a visit,” said admissions counselor Juan Miranda. “Anyone who sees the new facilities will be very impressed.”

The actual move from the original campus at the West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park began on Monday, December 17, 2012. Staff and faculty worked extra hours over the holidays to ensure that everything transitioned smoothly for the January 7th start date. “There were a few minor issues,” explained Therese Scanlan, chief financial officer and move coordinator. “But overall it was a very smooth process. Everyone pitched in and that made all the difference.” Administration, facilities management and security at Saint Elizabeth’s were very helpful as well.

The University is excited about opening its doors in such a vibrant neighborhood that boasts great restaurants, cafes, and other amenities. “We are so happy to welcome our students to the new location, said Dr. Beth A. Brooks, president of Oak Point University. “ The space has been designed with them in mind so it will be exciting to see them make it their own.”
