For the past two years, Oak Point University has participated in presenting the DAISY Faculty Award to one of our faculty members. The DAISY Faculty Award is given to a professor who is committed to inspiring and influencing nursing students. In order to honor the memory of their son who passed away from an auto-immune disease, the Barnes Family established the DAISY Foundation and the DAISY Award to recognize the clinical expertise and caring that was shown to their son by his nurses.

Fellow faculty, staff, administration, and students are all able to nominate who they believe deserves the award. From the nominations, the recipient is chosen through a blind review. This year, Jeny Mathews, Julie Duff, Lynda Crawford, Mary Kakenmaster, Tamara Bland, and Sandie Soldwisch were nominated. Tamara Bland was then selected from all of the nominations as the honoree of this year’s DAISY Faculty Award. She was nominated for being an excellent educator in the classroom and clinical settings, and for providing leadership opportunities to students. Tamara Vland was given the award at Oak Point University’s end of the year celebration on May 7th.
Congratulations Tamara Bland!
