A Nurse’s Care for His Mother Inspired Cesar to Enter the Profession

It only takes one person to change someone’s life, and that was me, you know. I saw one nurse taking care of my mom; she was there for her when I couldn’t be there, when my sister couldn’t be there, and that meant a lot to me. And I wanted to be that person for someone else.

His Focus Is On Community

So, the type of nursing that I practice is community nursing. I was drawn to it because I think it could have a very big impact on patients’ lives. Patients in underserved communities sometimes don’t realize, or don’t know how to navigate the healthcare system, you know a mammogram can save somebody’s life, you know a colonoscopy can save somebody’s life. One simple visit a year can make a difference.

“… a mammogram can save somebody’s life, … a colonoscopy can save somebody’s life. One simple visit a year can make a difference.”

What Being a #BadassNurse Means to Cesar

To me being a badass nurse means being able and wanting to go that extra mile with extreme passion about what you do, making sure that things are done a certain way, making sure that people are taken care of in every aspect of the patient’s life. You’re looking at the family, you’re looking at the home, you’re looking at the social determinants of health. There is so much that goes into taking care of one patient.

My name is Cesar Huerta, and I’m a badass nurse.
