Your Role as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
Why become a Medical Laboratory Scientist?
• They perform complex tests on fancy equipment to help doctors diagnose and treat patients.
• They help people live better, healthier lives by using tests and data to identify and treat terrible medical conditions that many people say only in a whisper.
• Decisions, decisions, decisions. MLSs inform approximately 60 to 70 percent of all patient diagnoses, treatment, and hospital admission and discharge decisions through the tests they perform.
What Do MLSs Do?
• Examine and analyze blood, body fluids, tissues, and cells.
• Utilize microscopes, cell counters, and other high-precision lab equipment.
• Cross-match blood for transfusion.
• Establish quality assurance programs to monitor and ensure the accuracy of test results.
